Cool team names a highlight of the annual 51-mile Rainier to Ruston Rail-Trail Relay race

Blisterin’ Fast, a hastily compiled relay team I ran with today, finished the 51-mile Rainier to Ruston Rail-Trail Relay at about 3:03 p.m. We started at 7 a.m.

I just filed my column for tomorrow’s News Tribune and Olympian and sadly wasn’t able to include comments from several runners I met along the course. One was a team of five women and one man who, at first look, I thought forgot to wear pants. However, what I actually saw from team Rears in Gear was prosthetic butts sewn onto what appeared to be boxer shorts.

Five of the six runners were emergency room nurses for St. Francis Hospital. I admit to being a little disappointed the team didn’t use its second choice for a team name: St. Franny’s Fannies.

In any case, one of the most enjoyable parts of running Rainier to Ruston or other team events is the creativity teams give to choosing their names. I thought I’d share some of my favorites from today’s race:

– My Beer Team has a Running Problem

– Fast Like Tractor

–  Legion of Zoom

– Original Slug Club

– Easier Said Than Run

– We’ve Got the Runs (Which was No. 2 in the poop pun division behind We Got the Trots)

– Tortured Soles

– Fast Girls = Good Times

– Flock of Turtles
